In 1866, Heart’s Content, a small coastal town in Newfoundland, became one of the most important communication hubs in the world. It was here that the first permanent transatlantic telegraph cable successfully connected North America to Europe, revolutionizing global communication by allowing messages to travel across the ocean in minutes rather than weeks.
The station houses a museum of the first transatlantic cabling station. There is plenty of old equipment, and informative videos. By the beach, remnants of the original transatlantic cable can be seen.
